In this edition of Pornhub Insights, we took a closer look at your activity on the site for the week leading up to, and on, Valentine\u2019s Day. With special attention to specific terms revolving around the International Day of Love, we pulled data that yielded some interesting results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

We compiled a unique terms list and pulled the data to see their proportional popularity on Valentine\u2019s Day. The topmost romantic search term was, to nobody\u2019s surprise, \u201cvalentines,\u201d while the 2nd most popular term was \u201cwife,\u201d and the 3rd was \u201clingerie.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are a couple interesting things to note here. First, you will find the term \u201cwife\u201d gets more attention than \u201cgirlfriend.\u201d This can be seen with more clarity especially in terms we will look at later. Additionally, the terms, \u201cromantic,\u201d \u201clove,\u201d \u201ckiss,\u201d and \u201cvalentine\u201d proved more popular than searches related to treats, such as \u201ccandy,\u201d \u201cchocolate,\u201d and \u201croses.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we looked at searches containing unique terms our team compiled in the week leading up to Valentine\u2019s Day, we found some predictable results, and some that were telling about fantasies this time of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, we looked at the percentage difference in popularity from February 7th<\/sup> to the 14th<\/sup>, compared to average results. Unsurprisingly, low volume terms like \u201cvalentines day surprise,\u201d \u201cvalentines day,\u201d and \u201cvalentines day sex\u201d saw massive increases. \u201cValentines day surprise\u201d lead the way with a jump of +4414%, while \u201cvalentines day\u201d jumped +3452% and \u201cvalentines day sex\u201d jumped +2575% respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, we also saw the term \u201cromantic\u201d jump +9%. While this number might not seem substantial, it is a term that is common throughout the rest of the year, rather than focused solely on a day, such as \u201cvalentine,\u201d so it is a significant increase in terms of raw searches. Romance, it appears, is very much alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, other non-Valentine\u2019s specific terms such as \u201croses\u201d was up +706%, \u201csweetheart\u201d was up +244%, \u201cpassionate intimate sex\u201d was up +123%, \u201cwife surprises husband\u201d was up +34%, \u201cromantic threesome\u201d was up +13% and \u201clove\u201d was up +11%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Terms related to lingerie also increased in this period leading up to Valentine\u2019s Day. \u201cLingerie anal\u201d was up +57%, \u201csexy lingerie\u201d was up +13%, and \u201clingerie try on\u201d was up +11%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remember how searches related to wives went up more during this time as well? Wives seem to be of extra interest in the week leading up to Valentine\u2019s Day. The term \u201cwife surprises husband\u201d was up +34%, \u201cshare wife\u201d was up +28%, \u201cwife shared\u201d was up +25% and \u201cwife switch\u201d was up +24%. In contrast to these searches, the term \u201chusband\u201d was only up +9%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valentine’s Day Traffic Changes<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With those of you who are in relationships during Valentine\u2019s Day, you will probably find yourselves busier than normal. This means you won\u2019t have that extra time to slip away and visit your favorite website. For that reason, traffic during Valentine\u2019s Day is, unsurprisingly, below average.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the day, there was a peak afternoon decrease of -6.9% around 1pm. Later in the afternoon, traffic starts to rise a bit until 5pm, where there was only a decrease of -3.1%. But after dinner, we can see the numbers drop to their lowest, at -7.5% around midnight, and staying well below average until about 3am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perhaps what is most interesting about the traffic changes is how widely it varies between male and female visitors. The data shows us that women are responsible for more of the traffic drop than men. This is especially true in the afternoon, when we saw a -10% drop below average around 2pm. On the male side of traffic, it was much steadier, with an average of -4.5% throughout the day. However, when 10pm hits, the male traffic starts to drop alongside the female traffic, with both being nearly equal from about 11pm to 1am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, we looked at the behavior of the United State broken down by individual states. Pulling the data from each state between 8pm and midnight showed us a vast range of differences from coast to coast. We were interested to see which states were the most romantic, based on their drop of traffic to Pornhub. Presumably, they are spending more time with their special someone than paying attention to the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We found Connecticut to have the biggest drop, nearly a quarter more than normal at -23.2%. This was followed by Rhode Island, with a drop of -19.1%, and then Illinois with -16.5%. On the other side of that coin is the states with the least drop in traffic. Unfortunately, Ohio takes home the medal for the least romantic state, with a decrease in traffic of a meager -2.4%, followed by both Iowa and Nebraska at -4.1% respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
